This Balkan Botanic Garden is one of the newest gardens of Europe. It is located in the deciduous oak forests of Mavrovouni and Kroussia Mountains. The mountain range of Kroussia is known for its dense vegetation, rich flora and multitude of streams and ravines.
Near the Balkan Botanic Garden there are areas which belong to the network NATURA 2000 such as Mount Beles, the wetlands of Kerkini and Doirani. In Kroussia and Pontokerasia you will find organized hostels with a magnificent view.
In the Balcan Botanic Garden you will have the opportunity to see plants that bloom all year round. Also, if you like hiking, you will definitely love the hiking trails that will take you to rock and aromatic gardens, waterfalls, ponds, streams, paths, meadows and forest lands. There are benches, fountains, gazebos, an observatory and a meeting place with a fireplace if you would like to rest, socialize or simply enjoy the tranquility.
There is the possibility for guided tours for students and teachers (by prior arrangement) as well as environmental education activities (games, field studies etc.) in the premises of the Balcan Botanic Garden.
